Newsletter: Friday 5th May

Dear Parents,

It has been lovely to have some sun this week and we’ve had some lovely highlights!

Year 3 and 4 football tournament – Harry Joe

We won the qualifying tournament at Boys’ Grammar School in April, unbeaten and with no goals conceded.

On Wednesday, Bidborough was one of four schools competing in the tournament finals for Years 3&4 boys, held at Culverden Stadium, Tunbridge Wells.  We won our first game against Paddock Wood 1-0, thanks to a good team move finished by Brodie.

Next we played the favourites: Woodlands School.  Despite Bidborough being the better team, it looked like we were going to lose 0-1 until Albie sent a free kick from the halfway line into the top corner with the last kick of the game to make it 1-1.

Woodlands surprisingly lost their last game, meaning we needed to beat Langton Green in our last game to become champions.  After going a goal down against Langton, Harry A equalised before Thomas put us ahead with a great volley.  Mason then scored directly from the corner to make the score 3-1.  The match finished 3-2 to Bidborough and we all celebrated being champions.  We were very proud to lift the trophy for the second year in a row.

Thank you to Mr Carrick for coaching us and to the parents who came to support us.

Class 1 assembly

This morning, we delighted in sharing Year One’s learning journey as they presented their wonderful class assembly.  We were so impressed by their fantastic artwork and brilliant poem about Forest School.  The children also showed us their amazing geographical knowledge and taught us a song to learn the seven continents.  There was even a quiz for us to participate in!  Well done to all of the children and staff in Year One and thank you for giving us the best start to our day!

Coronation Celebration

On Friday 12th May, we will be holding our own coronation celebration.  The children will participate in activities during the day, culminating in a street party in the afternoon.  As mentioned last week, children can wear red, white and blue for the day in exchange for £1.  They may also bring in a small ‘treat’ to eat during the street party (children will be making something in class to eat also).   Please ensure that anything children bring is in a named container and, of course, no nuts!

Chicks

We had 9 special visitors in school today...some newly hatched chicks!  Thank you to the Bastable family for sharing their fluffy friends with us.  All classes had the opportunity to visit the chicks today which was a lovely treat for a Friday.

Hope you have a lovely long weekend. Maybe I’ll see some of you on Monday for our gardening time (fingers crossed that it’s not too wet!).

Kind regards,

Julie Burton
