Newsletter: Friday 30th June

Dear Parents,

We’ve had some lovely extra-curricular opportunities this week. It’s so lovely to be able to give children some different opportunities.

Year 5 visit to Tonbridge School – Jacob and Emily

On Wednesday, Year 5 visited Tonbridge School to take part in a range of activities with lots of other primary schools.  The first activities included physics, dance, basketball and computing.  In physics we made paper stomp rockets which we launched outside and we had a competition to see whose could go furthest.  The second group of activities included swimming, archery tag and maths.  In swimming, we did relay races using front crawl and then had some free time to play in the pool. The last activities of the day included art, performance poetry, cricket and touch rugby.  Before leaving we visited the chapel and heard the organ playing the Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean theme tunes as well the Tonbridge school orchestra playing lovely tunes.  We then went over to the field and watched a Birds of Prey display including a Harris Hawk and a Falcon.  Two children from each class volunteered to lay down and have a bird of prey swoop just above them!  We were all very tired at the end of the day but still had a great time.

Perform drama workshops

This morning classes R, 1 and 2 had a visit from ‘Perform’ drama group for a short taster session.

Francesca and Leo said:

We went with Peter Pan to Neverland and we did some acting.  We had to do some freeze frames as characters from Peter Pan having a sword fight.  We also went on to Captain Hook’s ship and had to pretend to look for his treasure.  When Captain Hook appeared, we all froze so that he could not see us.  At the end we all got a sticker because we had all done such a good job!  It was really good fun.

Your child should have come home with some information about Perform’s classes, should you wish to find out more.  You can also take a look at their website: www.perform.org.uk

Class Photographs

Children had their class photographs taken on Thursday morning and should have come home with a slip containing a QR code.  Please use the code to view and order photographs.

Year 6 production

The children in Year 6 have been working hard to put together a fabulous production.  A reminder for Year 6 parents that the performances will be at 1.30 and 6pm on Tuesday 4th July.

Bidborough’s got talent

We are just getting ready for this evening’s exciting talent show! Huge thanks to Miss Birkett and the School Parliament for organising and Leah in the office for sorting the tickets!

And finally, I always say good news comes in threes… we congratulate Mr Johnson and his partner as they are expecting a baby in the winter!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Kind regards,

Julie Burton
Headteacher
