Newsletter: Friday 23rd June

Dear Parents,

It has been a lovely week here in school – the highlight has to be the assembly this morning.

Class 3 assembly

We were treated to a wonderful assembly courtesy of Class 3 this morning.  In their words:

A year full of laughter and challenges anew,

A year full of change,

It’s been the one where we grew.

This year we’ve all learnt the importance of self-belief,

And recognizing this has been a massive relief.

It was so lovely to see the children reflect on their learning journey this year and impress us with all that they have learnt.  They certainly have grown in so many ways and we are all very proud of them.  Thank you to all who were able to attend and celebrate with Class 3 this morning.

Year 3 and 4 Cricket Tournament – Brodie and George

On Thursday, we went to the Nevill Cricket Ground to play against some teams from other schools to try to make the final.  We were split into two teams and played 4 matches.  One team came in third place for the whole tournament.  The other didn’t quite make the semi-finals but still played brilliantly. We all had lots of fun and it helped our confidence in bowling and batting.

Year 6 trip to Rochester Cathedral - Molly

Yesterday, Year 6 went on a very special visit to Rochester Cathedral with other schools from the Diocese.  When we got there, a Bishop spoke to us about our journeys to secondary school.  He related it to the story of the shepherd who had 100 sheep and left 99 of them safely together to go and find the one that was missing.  Then we did several activities: we made keyrings with beads on them (each bead representing a different time in our primary school lives), we ordered historical events on a timeline, we attempted our own signatures, we learnt a song about journeys and learnt about the pilgrims who had to walk all the way to Rochester instead of taking the coach like us. We also learnt about special stained glass windows in the Cathedral and went in a room that is normally only accessible to authorised personnel! The day finished with us all joining in song together.

Bidborough’s Got Talent

The children have been busy this week auditioning for our Bidborough’s Got Talent final next Friday.  We have seen a wonderful array of talent and the finalists will be announced very soon!  We are looking forward to bringing you an evening jam-packed with entertainment so please do purchase your tickets via ParentMail!

Headlice

We have had some cases of headlice in the school.  If you could please check your child’s hair and treat any unwelcome visitors over the weekend, we would be very grateful!

Class Photos

A reminder that we will have class photographs next week, on Thursday 29th June.  Class 6 will also be having their Leavers photos on this day.  Please ensure that your child comes to school in full summer uniform ready for these photographs.

Industrial action

The teaching unions have asked their members to strike. As such, we will be closed on the second date of Friday 7th July. A form will be sent out next week to offer child care places to those children who are in receipt of Pupil Premium, whose parents are essential workers or are otherwise vulnerable.

And Finally…

Some exciting news to share with you!  Mrs Leach and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby boy this morning!  We are sure you will join us in sending lots of heartfelt congratulations to them all.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

Julie Burton
Headteacher
