Newsletter: Friday 20th October

And just like that, we have reached the end of Term 1!  What a wonderful term we have had.  It has certainly been a busy one and we know there are lots of tired children (and adults!) ready for the Half Term break.  Yesterday, we said goodbye to Mrs Thorne who is leaving us after 10 years at the school.  We showed her our thanks by singing her favourite hymn in worship and sharing a special poem created by Year 4.  Mrs Thorne will be greatly missed but we wish her the very best for her new adventures!

It was lovely to meet with those of you who were able to attend Learning Reviews earlier this week and great to be able to share how your children have settled.  If you were unable to attend and would like to speak with your child’s class teacher, please do let us know.

Yesterday, a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a football tournament.  Aidan and Ashton said: On Thursday the 5-6 football team had a tournament at Tonbridge Angels’ stadium. In the group stage we won 3, drew 1, and lost 1 which meant we ended on 10 points. This was only 1 away from going into the Cup because we came 3rd. Instead we headed into the Shield where we played Slade. We won 4-0 and then we played St Augustine’s which we won 3-0. It was a great experience and everyone had a great time. We all thank John AKA Albie’s dad for coaching us. We also thank Mrs Zerrad for coming and supporting the team. Overall we won 5, drew 1 and lost 1 and had a great time!’

There was more excitement for our Year 6 children as they were greeted to a sea of teal in their classroom this morning, receiving their Leavers’ Hoodies!  They were so happy to be able to wear these in school today.  Please see the Class 6 page for more information about when these can be worn.

A message from Mrs Hard: Calling all Reception and Year 1 parents!  Do you want to help your child take their first steps in reading and spelling? Do you have a basic understanding of how phonics works? Do you understand how to help your child build, read and write simple words? Then join Mrs Lindley and Mrs Hard in the school hall on Monday 6th November at 2.15pm for a parent's guide to phonics. Please email the office to book a place so we have enough chairs.

A few reminders:

  • - On Wednesday 1st November, we will have a ‘Light Day’ where children will be able to dress in light/bright colours and accessories in exchange for a charitable donation.
  • - There is a new menu for next term; please see this attached.
  • - After half term, children attending KS2 choir (Tuesdays after school) will need to be collected from the main office at 4pm.

Finally, we would like to send a huge congratulations to Mr Johnson and his soon-to-be wife as they celebrate their marriage next week!  We are sure you will all join us in wishing them a wonderful day and a very happy future.

Have a lovely Half Term break and we will see you back in school on Monday 30th October.
