Newsletter: Friday 1st December

We welcomed the month of December this morning with a very frosty start and even a glimpse of some flakes of snow.  The village certainly did look especially beautiful this morning as we all arrived but please do take extra care when walking to, from and around the school.  There was a wonderful feel around the school today as we prepared for the start of Advent with our Christingle celebrations.  All children spent time in the hall creating a Christingle and learning about what each part represents.  We then joined together in the church this afternoon for a special service led by Rev Hills.  The children enjoyed joining in song as Rev Hills dimmed the lights and their Christingles brought light into the darkness.  A special thanks to Mrs Dance for organising the day and to our fantastic worship leaders for leading the sessions, supporting the younger members of our school family so brilliantly.

Continuing with the theme of Advent, the Diocese have sent details of an online Advent Calendar running from 1st-15th December that you may wish to share with your children at home:

 https://calendar.myadvent.net/?id=rcp56izii1ut0gl3lywo8tcvbvpnitqr

The message from the Diocese is as follows: "This Advent calendar does not contain pictures of elves and snowmen, instead each day takes you to a picture of the nativity by an artist from a different country or culture. Also a story from the Bible about one of the people who was waiting for the birth of Jesus.  When you click on the door you will find:

  • an image;
  • some wondering questions;
  • a video of the story or a song;
  • the Bible reference for the story.

 At the weekends they have provided a picture, a video that families may enjoy watching together, and some questions to wonder about at home. We hope that your school community enjoy wondering about these beautiful pictures and the people who were waiting for the birth of Jesus.  The videos are a mixture of thought provoking and fun!”

The children in EY and KS1 have been busy practising for their nativity next week.  They have all worked so hard and are very excited to share with you on Tuesday! You should have received communication from the office with further information.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

Also next week, we have our Open Classroom event on Friday 8th at 2.40pm.  This is a chance for you to come and visit your child’s classroom and share their learning journey so far this year.  If you wish to attend, please come via the school office and then proceed to your child’s classroom.  Please note, children will need to stay in their own classrooms i.e. if you have more than one child in the school, you will need to visit each of their classrooms separately.  If you are unable to attend, please collect your child as normal at 3.15pm.

Our attendance figure for this week is 94.05%.  Keep wrapping up warm, washing hands well and let’s try to keep those winter bugs at bay!

Have a great weekend!
