Newsletter: Friday 19th May

Dear Parents,

It has been another wonderful week here in school with so much to be proud of! As the sun is also periodically shining, please remember to send in the children with their named yellow caps.

Year 2 have been working hard on their special SATs quizzes – they are undertaking their standardised assessments and taking it all in their stride. It’ll be maths quizzes next week for them.

Dance – Isabelle and Jessica

On Monday, the dance group went to perform their dance at the Stag theatre in Sevenoaks. There were lots of other schools there and we were all really excited. This year’s theme was ‘Around the World’, so our dance had a mix of lots of different songs from different cultures. During our performance, we got lots of laughs from the audience and all had a great time.

They had spent a lot of time rehearsing under the direction of Karen Heaslewood ably supported by Rebecca Howard. The girls were incredibly brave to be performing to a sold-out theatre and it was a wonderful evening. I know I have rose-tinted glasses sometimes but they really were outstanding and it was a surprise to receive the message below:

A short note to share what an absolute triumph your school was at the Stag theatre dance show tonight.
I was attending with a different dance school and was SO impressed with your children and staff. What a joy to watch a group genuinely loving their performance and the wonderful community of parents sharing in the delight after.
I have no doubt you know you have a very special school but wanted to share when it’s noticed by others too.

Cricket – James and Joe
Yesterday, we did a cricket tournament. Our first game was against St Augustine’s; we beat them by 41 runs. Then we played Claremont B team and won by 9 runs. Finally we played St John’s East Sussex to get into the semi-finals. We won by 19 runs but lost to Claremont A in the final by 26 runs who everyone agreed were really good. We came 2nd out of 15 teams.

The B team won their first match by 43 runs but lost their second match by 12 runs. We won the next two matches by 21 and 19 runs. Unfortunately we lost the next match which meant we finished 6th out of 15 teams.

Well done to all those who played – I know that Mr Carrick was really impressed with you and it sounded like a great day out. Thanks particularly to Chloe who stepped in at the last minute to complete our team!

Bidborough’s Got Talent
A date for your diaries!  For our charity fundraising event this year, the Bidborough School Parliament has decided to host a talent show.  The final of Bidborough's Got Talent will take place on the evening of Friday 30th June.  Please look out for further information on this in the coming weeks.

Playpark competition
A reminder that we are running a creative competition for all classes. Can you design a playground for the future generations of Bidborough children? Here is your brief:

  • The design must include elements for children of all ages
  • It must suit the beautiful surroundings of the recreation ground
  • Think about safety too!

So, to get involved, you can submit your design by a model, a drawing, a diagram or a written piece. You might decide to create a mood board or a mini scrap book. The closing date is MONDAY 12th JUNE. The winning ideas will be included in the new play park and there will be prizes for different age categories.

And for the grown-ups, you can also have your say by completing the form below:
