Dear Parents,

It has been a full and busy week here in school! We came together on Monday to share in our Harvest celebration. Thank you to those of you who sent in some food items from home to support the food bank this year. Please do continue to send in your contributions until the end of next week.

Yesterday was World Mental Health day. As you will hopefully be aware, we take the well being of all our children, including their mental health, very seriously. Our Year 6 children report:

This week in class six we have been thinking about mental health and how to spread the word. We chose our partners and made a presentation. We chose a class to show our presentations to help them understand five of these things: Take Notice, Give, Be Active, connect and keep learning.

Please do ask your children to explain what these factors are. As you will recall from last week’s newsletter, we are beginning a project in school to improve well-being through the Sandwell Charter Mark process. The children have this week completed online self evaluation surveys and next week the School Parliament will meet together to discuss how the school supports their well-being and make some suggestions for improvements. If you would like support this project in school, we are still looking for a couple more parent volunteers to meet with the team on Monday morning at 8:45. Please do just stay after drop off on Monday if you want to join the others taking part.

Please see below messages from Mrs Hard regarding some exciting reading news, the PTA about some easy fundraising opportunities and Bidboro’Out regarding a job opportunity.

I hope to see some of you at the PTA quiz this evening and all of you next week at our Learning Reviews.

Kind regards,

 Julie Burton

Super Readers at Bidborough

Thank you to all the families who took part in the Summer Reading Challenge this year. Not only was I pleased to tell class 1 that they had completed the most challenges over the summer but I recieved a rather wonderful email from Susan Rogers from the Kent Library Service informing me that our little school had completed the most reading challenges in all of Tunbridge Wells and that we had won a rather lovely trophy. This is quite an achievement for our small school and on Thursday we were pleased to welcome Susan to our Worship and Praise to present the trophy to our head boy and girl.

With Christmas coming our way, what better gift to give than the gift of reading. Your child should have brought home a flyer from Scholastic books this week. Do consider purchasing books from them through the website as this means we will be able to purchase more books for our school library.

Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to http://schools.scholastic.co.uk/bidborough to browse the latest books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 25p in Scholastic Rewards.

Please place your order online by November 4th, 2019. This should ensure that all books ordered will be delivered free of charge to school before December. All books will be kept in the office for collection and will not be sent home with pupils.

And finally, I have a couple of parent volunteers to help open the library after school. It would be wonderful if we could open it up every day after school, so if you feel you could offer just 15-20mins at the end of the school day we'd really appreciate it. Do let the office or myself know.

Many thanks,

Mrs Hard
