Physical Education
At our school, we believe that being active and participating in sports is very important to our young people. The benefits in terms of physical and mental well-being are boundless. We aim to provide a broad range of sports so that every child can find something to suit them. We are proud of the range of sporting activities available for our children and you will see from some of the photos below just how many different children have been able to experience being part of a team and competing against other schools too.
Our PE plan for each year is shown below We use our PE Premium funding to give children opportunities to try more unusual activities such as curling, fencing and climbing. We also meet our OAA curriculum with Forest School in the local woods. We are committed to ensuring children leave school able to swim a minimum of 25 metres and we use Tonbridge Swimming Pool for our swimming lessons. A wide range of sports, including Swimming, Cricket, Netball, Rugby, Football, Hockey and Basketball are taught at Bidborough.
Tunbridge Wells Schools Years 3 & 4 Football Tournament – 03/05/2023 (Report by Harry Alexander, Year 4)
We won the qualifying tournament at Boys Grammar School in April, unbeaten and with no goals conceded.
On Wednesday Bidborough was one of four schools competing in the tournament finals for years 3 & 4 boys held at Culverden Stadium, Tunbridge Wells. There were also finals for years 5 & 6 boys and for girls in years 3 & 4 and years 5 & 6.
We won our first game against Paddock Wood 1-0, thanks to a good team move finished by Brodie.
Next we played the favourites, Woodlands School. Despite Bidborough being the better team, it looked like we were going to lose 0-1 until Albie sent a free kick from the halfway line into the top corner with the last kick of the game to make it 1-1.
Woodlands surprisingly lost their last game, meaning Bidborough needed to beat Langton Green in our last game to become champions. After going a goal down against Langton, Harry Armory equalised before Thomas put us ahead with a great volley. Mason then scored directly from the corner to make the score 3-1. The match finished 3-2 to Bidborough and we all celebrated being champions. We were very proud to lift the trophy for the second year in a row.
Thank you to Mr. Carrick for coaching us and to the parents who came to support us.
Sports 2022-2023
Netball Match V Claremont - 08/02/2023
On Wednesday Bidborough played Claremont and it was a really good game. At first Claremont took the lead which they followed with two more goals. But Bidborough stayed strong, and in the second quarter Owen scored a goal and Jessica then scored another. Claremont scored two more goals at the end, which meant we lost 5-2. We played better than before because we communicated to each other, we also moved quickly to catch the ball and made lots of passes. It was amazing and a lot of fun working together as a team. Next time hopefully Bidborough can win.
The Swimming Gala – 03/03/2023
Oh my goodness – what an evening! Imagine the scene: Tunbridge Wells Swimming pool; spectator gallery FULL with parents, siblings and supporters; poolside FULL of swim teams from 12 schools across Tunbridge Wells; officials from the Monson Swimming Club standing by to officiate and one cool, blue pool with 6 lanes marked out for racing. Could you jump in and compete in front of the cheering crowds? I am sure I couldn’t but so many brave children did just that! Of course, I can only talk for our team but I know that that was no mean feat. I told them I was so proud of their bravery when one boy piped up, “I’m not brave, I was so scared!” I pointed out that real bravery was being scared of something and still doing it. And we had some very brave children! As far as I was concerned, and I’m sure their families watching, they were already winners by getting in the pool. So the icing on the top was winning the small school league! The children also received medals for winning the mixed medley relay and the boys freestyle relay. One of our girls swum in 4 races, another lad made it to the final of the open heats, another girl swam in Year 6 group although only Year 5… each child had their own achievement. Thank you to Mrs Entwistle for her poolside support, to the parents, siblings and friends who came to support and to Mr Carrick for arranging the whole gala!
National Football Tournament – 19/01/2023
Yesterday, Bidborough played in a football tournament at the Tonbridge first team’s stadium. The weather was warm and the pitch was lovely to play on. We played 8 games in total and won 7 but unfortunately lost 1. We all played amazingly. In one game, Harry scored a hat-trick and, in another game, Keagan scored with a bicycle kick. We played really well as a team and, in the end, we placed 1st in the group. That means we’re through to the semi-final on 28th January.
Football Semi final V St Augustines – 28/02/2023
On the 28th Of January, Bidborough football team played in a semi-final against St Augustine’s at the Tonbridge Angels Stadium. We were all nervous although we had played against them multiple times and won. The game lasted half an hour. Unfortunately, we lost 3 – 0 and a very good player on the other team scored a hat-trick with powerful long shots. We all played our best and came really far but good luck to St Augustine’s in their final.
