Dear Parents,

Welcome back to what is usually a busy but enjoyable term. This year is no different, with Fireworks, Remembrance day, Infant Nativity and Christingle all included. See below for some dates for your diary this term.

If your child has any energy left, you should be receiving a new Home Learning Menu to select from. The range of activities and work that the children brought in on our first Home Learning Exhibition on Wednesday was fantastic. The children shared their work both within their class and with other classes around the school. I know that it has inspired some of our children to get creative at home.

Please remember, we do ask that the children read every evening and that this is recorded in their student planners. I hope you have been finding the reflection pages useful, too. I would appreciate any feedback that you have about how these are working for you and your family.

This November, in school, we will be taking part in maths challenges in school using the Bar Model – Barvember!

Barvember is organised by White Rose Maths to encourage everyone to use the bar model. We believe that the Bar Model is a useful tool for helping children visualise and then solve maths problems. Even some of the most complex problems can be seen much easier when represented visually.
Barvember provides an opportunity for everyone to just do some maths.
We know that the bar model is not the ONLY way of visualising a problem and we also know that these problems can be solved in the other ways.
As a taster, here is one for you to try – solution next week!

Hana and David each have some money.
The ratio of Hanna’s to David’s money is 7 : 4.
If Hanna gives David £4.80 they will have the same amount of money.
How much did Hanna have at the start?

Wrap up warm and keep safe this weekend!

Kind regards,

Julie Burton
