Newsletter 1

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the start of a new school year. It is lovely to see the children look so rested and excited for a new beginning. And to echo the phrase I keep hearing, “Haven’t they grown?”

We are particularly welcoming new faces to our Bidborough family. We have Laura Fowler joining us as Acting Deputy whilst Becky Hook is on maternity leave. Also in our staff team, we have Jess Salvidge in Year 2. Across the school, we have welcomed several new children in various year groups and our new Reception class will be settling in over the next couple of weeks. I am sure you will join me in giving a very warm welcome.

We have lots of plans this year and I am looking forward to sharing them with you. An important date for your diary is next week’s ‘Meet the Teacher’. This is an invaluable opportunity to meet your new staff team and find out more about the topics and expectations for your class. Remember, the topics are often kept under wraps from the children, so please don’t spoil the surprises! We will begin this meeting in the hall at 7pm, then move as usual to oldest class first.

Also coming up, in a slight alteration from the published calendar, Year 3 will be beginning their unit of Outdoor Adventurous Activities on Thursday 14th September. Please remember, these sessions continue regardless of the weather, so please send the children with clothing for all weathers! Speaking of which… the rain seemed to catch many children out today without coats. Please ensure the children have at least a waterproof coat that can be kept in school. We endeavour to get the children outside for at least a quick breath of fresh air on rainy days.

Thank you to all of you who have returned club slips promptly. Please take note of their start and end dates in your diaries too. All children will be receiving a taster of Judo next week on Wednesday – this is always a good opportunity for children to try out a new sport.

Year 6 are breathing a bit of a sigh of relief after many of them undertook the Kent test on Thursday. Teachers would say, now the work really begins! However, I hope they have a relaxing weekend as they all did themselves proud in their conduct and effort throughout the day.

So, lots of updates to follow next week, including information about how you can get involved this year.

Kind regards,

Julie Burton
